Welcome to Class Rashford

We received a very important letter today from Sir David Attenborough asking us to do a very important job! We are so excited to learn more about the Galรกpagos Islands and how we can help endangered species!

We loved making our timeline all about British civil rights!

Anti-bullying week! We have enjoyed doing lots of group discussions, matching cards and discussing different scenarios to help us think about the impact of bullying. Year 5 have shown insight into the impact of bullying and the importance of respecting everyone! Well done year 5๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Y5 are loving learning about equality!

On world mental health day we were busy doing sports at the tag rugby festival. We know exercising is a brilliant way to keep our minds healthy however we did lots of discussion around mental health and reflecting back on Mrs Tabbners filling buckets story to support and open up conversations about mental health! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Y5 had lots of fun in maths today!

Yesterday in Year 5 we had a great literacy lesson! We used music, dance, facial expression, chants and language to highlight the writing features used by Anthony Browne in King Kong!

Welcome to theClass Rashfords

This week the Curious Curies have been getting in the festive spirit! In our maths sessions, we have been doing a variety of Christmas themed activities. Take a lot at our Christmas Coordinates below:

Creative Coordinates

This week has been very exciting for the Curious Curies. We have been very lucky as Primary Enterprise Challenge came in and spent a full day with our class designing a new product for Crazy Soap to produce. The children were brilliant and really enjoyed their day. They had the chance to create a brand name, logo, product and packaging.

They then had to present their idea and the winners are going to compete with winning groups from other schools for a chance to take their product to the Crazy Soap factory!

Sorry about the quality of the video. It's not a video effect. It is the smallest I could get the file in order to upload it onto the website.
Missing you all dearly, take care. Mrs Whitehead

Due to updated government guidance we can no longer provide additional reading books for home. Please read the books you have, look at magazines, share stories from your bookshelf and use our online links to support your child’s reading.

Any books returned to school will be left in a box until we can clean them for the safety of staff and pupils. Many thanks for your continued support in these difficult times.

Maths May Calendar

We would like to brighten your time at home with a gift from the children in school.

Home Learning

Currently, in school, we are not following the daily timetable. Ours and your main focus at the moment should be: reading, times tables, phonics (to fill knowledge gaps).

Please complete a journal at home with your experiences during this strange time. This can be your written experience, but you can also illustrate it too.

Most importantly, spend quality time with family. Go on walks, paint, draw, be creative, bake, cook, talk and even learn how to do something new. This means that we have the opportunity to be more creative and to learn new skills.

Stay Safe, Mrs Whitehead

Please send us pictures of your fun activities at home too. With your permission, we would like to share these photos on our class pages. Let's share some inspiration with our fellow classmates.

Perhaps, you have been baking, drawing or creating some fun activities to do whilst you are at home.

You can send these pictures to:

summerfields@pioneeract.org.uk

Let's get writing!

We would like to read your experiences of working from home too. As this is a significant moment in time, we would like to document what is going on within our lives.

Writing a journal or diary during this time would document this point in our modern history.

You can write a journal on the computer or on paper and send it to the school email address.

Be a part of history! Describe your thoughts, feelings and what you have done during your time away from school.

We are all missing you and it would be lovely to hear from you.

Lots of Love,

Mrs Whitehead

If you would like to continue to practice skills that you have learnt in school, please find work below for your child in the event of a lockdown. The work does not require printing and we do not expect you to hand it in.

The work has been split into weeks and days. The work should have varying difficulties (if it requires it). Your child is well adapted to knowing the level that they should be working at, allow them to choose the level that they feel is best for them.

Spring Homework Grid

Welcome! We are Awesome Australians!

We have had a great start to the year. We have delved into our 'Who Do You Think You Are?' topic and we have written autobiographies about ourselves. We have created family trees as part of our homework and we are now looking into the very current topic of Climate Change within our second writing cycle. We are looking at the impact that climate change has on us and the world around us. It is extremely interesting, especially because our research is informing what we write!

How do our actions affect our future?

As a part of our 'Do our actions affect our future?' exploration, we have been investigating how tone, shape, texture and lines effect the mood of our artwork. Here are our sketches.

Year 5 compulsory spelling list

Children are more likely to retain spelling information if it is repetative. Therefore, children will be tested on these spelling during our weekly handwriting practise. They will have time to learn and understand 10 words a week during our 30 minute session. Your child can take these spellings home to develop further or check out the PDF above to see all of the spelling we will be continuing to cover this year along side tricky and common words.
Congratulations Travis on being my special mention this week. You showed great resilience in our fractions sessions this week! Keep up the hard work :)
